Did you know that the inaugural National Card Fraud Prevention campaign was launched on 5 November? Jointly hosted between The Payments industry body APACS and the UK Petroleum Industry Association, this campaign acts a reminder to customers of the need to keep their card and PIN details safe and secure at all times.
You may notice some changes when paying by card at a number of petrol stations, such as BP, Texaco, Shell and Esso throughout the country. Cards containing specific advice will be handed out to customers reminding them of their responsibilities.
Remember:
- Always keep your card out of sight and in a safe place, when not in use
- Never tell anyone your PIN number, memorise and never write down any new or existing PIN
- At shop checkouts, keypads should be appropriately positioned and shielded against prying eyes, however you should still be aware of anyone looking over your shoulder as you key your PIN
- Don't accept help from strangers and don't let anyone distract you during the course of any transaction or at an ATM
- Respect other's privacy when waiting to complete a transaction
