A secure international payment service using electronic links between banks - useful where speed is not of the essence.

A reliable, highly secure, electronic means of sending money abroad. You can:

  • make payments of any amount in any currency to most destinations throughout the world
  • provide your beneficiary with funds within 3-4 working days of your account being debited
  • initiate payments via NatWest branches or from your computer using Bankline

Standard transfers offer a cheaper alternative to our urgent transfer service.

How to make a payment

You should tell us:

For euro payments to the 27 members of the European Community* as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland:

  • The name of the person to whom the money is being sent
  • Their bank's BIC address - unique identifier code
  • Their International Bank Account Number (IBAN)
  • Agree to pay NatWest fees only (the recipient will need to pay any of their bank’s fees)

For all other payments

  • The currency you want the payment to be in
  • The name of the person to whom the money is being sent
  • Their bank's BIC address - unique identifier code
  • The full name of the bank
  • Their bank address and sort code
  • Their Account number
  • Which charges you will be paying

Cost

  • Euro payments containing the above mentioned information will cost £10. You will only pay NatWest fees (the recipient will need to pay any of their bank's fees)
  • All other payments cost £20. The overseas bank will also make a charge. You can choose to pay all the charges; to pay only our charges; or to have the recipient pay all the charges. You can also send extra information with the payment

* Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the UK (and associated territories)

International payments comprise both cross-border payments, whether in sterling or currency, and currency payments within the UK.
